Bucking up Logs in the Roaring Branch Camp
This picture was taken outside of Roaring Branch, PA at the height of the lumber boom. Established in 1862 Roaring Branch is on the edge of Lycoming and Tioga counties in one of the more rugged areas of the state. Even after 160 years it still only has about 400 residents. This picture thought to be taken by William T. Clarke was most likely used as promotional material by a lumber company as it seems to be somewhat staged and the men all have cleaner than usual clothes. One thing is for sure, staged or not no one had an easy day at work in those days.
