Meal Time

Since the loggers in the camps worked very hard they had to eat well....and well they did. Somehow I don't believe they ate a weight watchers diet!

Shipping Info

All of our lumber shipments are made either by FedEx or by common carrier Roadway Express. Most shipments up to 200 board feet are sent via FedEx. Shipments in excess of 200 board feet are generally sent via Roadway Express. We will always ship by the cheapest method to ensure that our customer gets the very best rate available to us. Each method of shipping has advantages and disadvantages.

FedEx Shipping Guidelines

FedEx has certain shipping restrictions on all their packages. They will not accept anything longer than 9 foot long. Occasionally lumber is over 9 foot long which presents a dilemma. If you want to use FedEx as your freight carrier then I have to cut the board lengths into 9 foot or less. In cutting the boards over 9 foot long, I always cut the cracks from one end and then cut the board as per your instruction. This way you have a solid crack free section of board. I always cut for the clearest defect free board I can get from the piece of lumber.

Please read and understand the FedEx oversized definitions as outlined below which will directly affect shipping cost..

Oversize 1 means that the package weighing less than 30 pounds with dimensions that exceed 84 inches in length and girth combined and is less than or equal to 108" combined will be charged as a 30lb package. Any package that weights over 30lbs will be charged according to the actual weight.

Oversize 2 means that a package weighing less than 50 pounds with dimensions that exceed 108 inches in length and girth combined and is less than or equal to 130" combined will be charged as a 50lb package. Any package that weights over 50lbs will be charged according to the actual weight.

Oversize 3 means that a package weighing 150lbs or less and measures greater than 130" in length and girth combined will be billed the actual weight or a 90lb minimum billable rate. An additional oversize charge of $30 per package will also be charged on any package that exceeds 130" in length and girth.

I am telling you all of this to try and save you money on your shipping charges. Complicated...Confused? You now know what I have to deal with on a daily basis.

Common Carrier Guidelines

Common Carrier has no restrictions when it comes to shipping lumber. It is however a much more expensive method of shipping smaller quantities of lumber. Also unless you are a business you will be charged an extra $50 - $70 charge for a non commercial home delivery . You may of course pick your shipment up at the nearest terminal at no extra cost to you. I always ship via common carrier when quantities are over 200 board feet because this method is much more efficient and cheaper.

MapleLeaf Shipping Policies

So there you have the dilemmas of shipping choices. I would recommend FedEx for all shipments under 100 board feet and occasionally up to 200 board feet depending on the situation. They deliver to your door at no extra cost and are generally efficient in doing so. Besides that if you can get your quantities over the 200 pound magic number ( 57bf) your shipping cost is greatly reduced by as much as 25% over the normal charges per bundle. This is because I have a contract with FedEx where they extend discounted rates starting at 200 pound shipping weights. I am not in the shipping business so I will gladly extend this discount to you.

I will by default ship all material under 100 board feet via FedEx so please give me your cutting instruction for boards over 9 foot long when you place your order. Please indicate the shipping agent you want me to use for your shipment if it is different from my default method. Please note.....If I have your shipping address listed in my data base from a previous order and you change your shipping address and do not indicate this change at the initial time of any subsecuite order I will not be responsible for any additional shipping charges in getting the item to you.

All retail lumber is end coated with protective sealer and is securely bound together to ensure that your lumber gets to you intact and in good shape. After shipment we will notify you of your shipping date and the FedEx tracking number or your common carrier pro number. These numbers will enable you to track your shipment in transit. To track your shipment tune into the appropriate shipping agent's web pages at FedEx or Roadway Express. Thank you for choosing MapleLeaf Hardwoods for your quality lumber needs.
