The above photo was taken in the late 1880's of a team of loggers working close to the Susquehanna. It all started with the loggers. They worked a 12 hour day for less than $1.00 per day! God only knows how many men were killed or maimed in the woods working under these primitive conditions. Even today I know of deadly accidents that have taken place with modern loggers. This breed of men are still around today. They were and are self reliant and hard workers. I know of one modern day logger that cut his finger off in the woods. He merely bound it up to stop the bleeding and continued with his work until he walked out of the woods at the end of the day's work!

In the course of shipping figured wood we always end up with cut offs. They are a mixture of figured wood species but you will find they are mostly maple.The lengths range from about 12" to 17". Widths range from 4" to a maximum of 12" and thicknesses range from 1" to 1 1/2". Minimum order is 5 pieces. Figure is always good to excellent. Although they are surfaced in the jpg for presentation purposes, they are mostly unsurfaced. There might be possible end checks and knots present but there is a lot of good wood for small projects and you can't beat the price at $5.00 a piece. No effort will be made to sort for a specific curl, thickness, length or width. FedEx shipping is extra.

An economical way to buy 4/4 curly maple in smaller lots. Grades are 1Com & Btr, random widths and lengths and the curl covers the entire board. Mostly sapwood two face but always at least 100% sapwood one face with some heartwood on the second face. An excellent buy!
