Nearing the End of the Boom By the late 1880s, bringing logs to Williamsport, Pa was transitioning from using the Susquehanna river to rail. The great flood of 1894 completely wiped out the log Boom and washed nearly 2 million board feet of lumber down the river. The Boom was later rebuilt, but in 1908 the Susquehanna Boom Company disbanded, the Boom was dismantled, and the water era of sawmill operations switched completely over to rail use.
